DIE!
DIE! DIE! THE THIRD ALBUM REVEALED + LIMITED AUSTRALIAN
TOUR
New
Zealand’s finest avant-garde punk band Die! Die!
Die! are putting the finishing touches to what will
be their third, as yet titled, full-length record due
out in Spring 2010, preceded by a single and a quick
return trip to Australian shores
This amazing new album boasts a reckless, driven dynamic
& sometimes menacing sound – the kind of energy-ridden
anarchy
of their debut record based on rhythm and volume although
with the bursting melodies of ‘Promises Promises’
- the two fronts colliding
in what will surely be an album of 2010. This forthcoming
album feels like (r)evolution!
Recorded at Lab in Auckland and Chicks Hotel in Dunedin,
New Zealand, the Nick Roughan-produced album will be
released in Spring 2010.
<>
In the band's own words, “We are bringing grace
to our records because we are allowed to”.
PRESS QUOTES, CIRCA ‘PROMISES PROMISES’
Fans of plentiful punctuation and catchy, danceable
garage rock anthem rejoice!... 8/10” NME
“Exhausting, but fucking good… spine-crunchingly
raw and bloody brilliant” Clash
“Die! Die! Die! have mastered their brand of garage
punk… with vocals that drift between frenzied
wailing and been-there-done-that cynicism” Rock
Sound
“One the most sonically exciting dins Breaking
Act has heard in months” The Sunday Times
“A sense of danger, hunger and heat – qualities
that so many current groups miss… other post-punk
apostles should come gather at this alter, and prepare
to kick the bucket” The Guardian
“A blistering pace… a performance that left
me wanting more” Mail on Sunday
“This is Nirvana at their bruised best; Iggy Pop
and James Williamson reaching rock bottom, yet finding
new inspiration in their torment; it’s pain and
experience made into the best
kind of punk rock” Artrocker
“Crunching the genes of Wire, Gang Of Four….the
groovy punk of Die! Die! Die! is worthy of its Russ
Meyer-like name. The sickeningly tight power trio’s
latest effort, Promises, is a bracing
throwback to the future.!” LA Weekly

UNDERGROUND
LOVERS - ORIGINAL LINE UP REFORM FOR HOMEBAKE &
MELBOURNE GIGS; RUBBER RECORDS REISSUE DIGITAL BACK
CATALOGUE
“The Melbourne quintet remain one of the great
lost bands of the Australian underground scene”
Craig Mathieson (from the book Playlisted UNSW Press,
Nov 2009)
“The Underground Lovers are one of the most unique
and influential groups that stood out of the pack. If
you missed them first time, make sure you don't miss
this opportunity, they are well worth discovering”
Jae Laffer (The Panics)
“The Underground Lovers are/were one of my favourite

absolutely brilliant! Its great they’re back together”
Steve Kilbey (The Church)
“The first time I heard them was in February 2007.
I was in Sydney in a car with Steve Kilbey of The Church.
We where listening to Leaves Me Blind... I felt cheated
and robbed that I had never heard this band's music
before. Anytime I play them at a DJ gig or just have
it on in the tour van someone else always seems to end
up falling in love with their mysterious, mercurial
and magical sounding music” Ricky Rene Maymi (The
Brian Jonestown Massacre)
The original line up of Melbourne’s seminal, much
loved 90s band UNDERGROUND LOVERS has reformed for three
exclusive performances this December, in conjunction

STEPHEN
MALKMUS and THE JICKS ‘Real Emotional Trash
Tour’
STEPHEN MALKMUS, front-man of the legendary PAVEMENT
and member of SILVER JEWS, returns to Australian stages
with his friends THE JICKS for a long overdue run of
shows this September. On the back of their most recent
and raw record 'Real Emotional Trash', and for the first
time since 2005, Malkmus will tour with fully-fledged
Jicks: bassist Joanna Bolme, guitar/keyboardist Mike
Clark, as well as monster drummer Janet Weiss (Sleater
Kinney & Quasi).
Malkmus's genius is that he doesn’t conform to
the limitations that words and melody impose. He is
a word wizard and true guitar hero. In a musical avant
garde style he invented, Malkmus twists his phrases
into gummy-like incarnations, stretching them out, in,
and back around again in brilliantly warped arrangements.
"I am not a present to be opened up and parcelled
out again," our man Malkmus insists on "Gardenia,"
track seven on his new album. Ha! That's what you think,
pal. From the day nigh two decades ago when the first
scratchy sounds of Pavement floated in the ether, the
music of STEPHEN MALKMUS has been the gift that keeps
on keepin' on.
Expect
nothing but pure brilliance when Stephen Malkmus and
the Jicks hit town!

LOST
VALENTINOS - CONQUISTADISCO TOUR
PRESENTED
BY - TRIPLE J, MYSPACE, BRAG, BEAT,
RAVE, DB XPRESS MAGAZINE & FASTERLOUDER
DEBUT ALBUM RELEASE: 09.09.09
TITLE: CITIES OF GOLD
Just back from a convincing European tour & a huge
show at Splendour In The Grass, Lost Valentinos have
left their suitcases packed and ready for a run around
Australia this August on
their ‘Conquistadisco’ tour. Lost Valentinos
will be heralding the arrival of their sizzling new
single ‘Thief’, which comes on the eve of
the unearthing of their glorious debut album “Cities
of Gold”.
Produced by the hugely sought after producer Ewan Pearson,
the album “Cities of Gold” becomes legal
on 09.09.09. Born from a journey that took in two years
and the cities Sydney, Berlin
and London, it remains a brilliant, fresh, cohesive
body of work that more than accounts for the attention
and acclaim this band has attracted since birth.
Last month saw the release of their first UK single
‘Midnights’ through new label Dummy. It
has picked up regular and enthusiastic play on Zane
Lowe’s mega influential BBC Radio I program,
has been a fixture on the NME Stereo and the UK Guardian
lauded the bands “forceful, krautrockin techno
style” in their pick as artist of the week?
This month of course is time to ‘Conquistadisco’!!

Now
whilst we all wait for the impending release of Wolfmother's

PAUL
DEMPSEY - SOLO SHOWS IN MELBOURNE AND SYDNEY
NEW SINGLE "OUT THE AIRLOCK" OUT MAY 15TH
THROUGH EMI
After
12 years, 5 albums, hundreds of shows, festival appearances,
gold and platinum awards and comments about how tall
he is, Something For Kate front man Paul Dempsey is
spending 2009 stepping out on his own to release his
first solo album in the middle of the year.
Recorded at a friend’s house on the NSW central
coast with producer Wayne Connolly (Youth Group, Josh
Pyke, You Am I) and mixed in LA with Doug Boehm (Elliot
Smith, French Kicks), the album is a marked departure
from the heavier, more intense SFK sound. Paul plays
every instrument on the record, and uses space, atmosphere
and economy in every song.
This change in approach is perfectly illustrated on
the first single from the album, "Out The Airlock"
which features just Paul, an acoustic guitar and the
barest of accompanying instrumentation to incredible
effect . The single was available for a short time as
a free mp3 download from Paul’s sitewww.pauldempseymusic.com,
and is available exclusively from itunes on 15th May.
Paul will play two very special, intimate solo shows
in Melbourne and Sydney to preview the entire album
as well as drawing from the extensive Something For
Kate catalogue at the Northcote Social Club on Wednesday
3rd of June and Annandale Hotel on Thursday 4th of June.

ESKIMO
JOE NATIONAL TOUR DATES
The wait is finally over for Eskimo Joe’s Australian
fans to see their favourite live act on the just announced
‘INSHALLAAUSTRALIAN TOUR’ throughout July
and August 2009. This will be Eskimo Joe’s only
tour for 2009 and demand for tickets will be huge due
to the fact that every Eskimo Joe show sold out on their
last album tour. Tickets are on sale from Monday May
4 from www.eskimojoe.net and the usual outlets.
Eskimo Joe have just returned from a European tour and
have come home to the news that their latest single,
‘Foreign Land’ came in as the #1 Most Added
Song at radio and after two weeks on air is already
riding high in the Top 20 of the Australian airplay
chart.
‘Foreign Land’ is first single from Eskimo
Joe’s much-anticipated fourth album ‘Inshalla’
which will be released on Friday May 29. ‘Inshalla’
is an invigorating, exciting fresh sound for a trio
intent on embracing the world around them and the band
can’t wait to perform songs from the new album,
as well as their vast collection of previous hits, on
the Inshalla Australian Tour. Joel Quartermain said
the following about the upcoming tour:
"Having played shows abroad we are really excited
to be getting in front of our home audiences with a
new record and new songs to play. We've put a lot of
thought into this show hoping everyone will have a unique
experience."
For a band whose sound has taken giant leaps forward,
from 2001’s ‘Girl’ to 2004’s
‘A Song Is A City’ and on to the fourtimes-platinum
mega hit ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine’,
Eskimo Joe have stepped up to again prove why they’re
one of the most heralded and enduring rock bands around
today.

SOUND RELIEF CONCERT ANNOUNCED
IMC
IS EXTREMELY HONOURED TO CO-PROMOTE TOGETHER WITH CHUGG
ENTERTAINMENT, MARK POPE MUSIC AND MICHAEL GUDINSKI
(ON BEHALF OF THE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC COMMUNITY)
TWO VERY SPECIAL BENEFIT CONCERTS FOR VICTIMS OF THE
VICTORIAN FIRES AND QUEENSLAND FLOODS - SOUND RELIEF
SATURDAY MARCH 14, 2009 – MCG & SCG
NEWS
UPDATE - BEE GEES' BARRY GIBB JOINS SYDNEY TO PERFORM
GREATEST HITS
Hot on the heels of the news that Melbourne’s
SOUND RELIEF concert is now sold out and Kylie Minogue’s
confirmed guest appearance in Melbourne, the producers
of this Saturday’s benefit concerts are thrilled
to confirm that the legendary singer/songwriter Barry
Gibb of The Bee Gees is returning to Australia specifically
to perform at the Sydney event.
Barry Gibb, backed by some of Australia’s hottest
contemporary musicians including Jon Farriss from INXS
on drums, will take to the stage on Saturday night to
perform some of the biggest songs of all time.
One of the most celebrated and successful artists and
songwriters in the history of popular music, this will
be Barry’s first major concert performance in
Australia since his last appearance with The Bee Gees
at Sydney’s Olympic Stadium in 1999.
Many Australians will always consider Barry Gibb and
his famous siblings to be bona fide Aussies. The trio
honed their distinctive style and launched their music
careers while still schoolboys in Queensland, before
taking off to conquer the world and going on to become
one of the biggest-selling recording groups of all time.
Barry Gibb has always retained a close spiritual connection
with Australia and said “I am truly proud and
honoured to be a small part of such an incredible event.
I shall be there with wings on my heels to help in any
way I can the victims of this terrible disaster, let’s
make it count for all of them. I’m coming home.”
This weekend’s SOUND RELIEF shows are guaranteed
to become one of the defining concert events of our
generation, all for such an important cause. Do not
miss out on being involved!
While the SOUND RELIEF show in Melbourne is now a sell-out,
new oval tickets have been released for the Sydney event
but are selling fast.
Aside from the confirmed line-ups in each city, concert
goers can expect a few more surprise guests on the day.
AND FOR A SPECIAL NOTE TO ALL THOSE IN SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE
THAT HAVE SURED THEIR TICKETS…… Concert
attendees are about to be part of - and will witness
- history in the making as both Sydney & Melbourne

be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
For the Sydney concert, 50% of the profits will be donated
to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and 50% will
be donated to The Premier's Disaster Relief Fund Appeal
in QLD to aid the victims of the Queensland floods.

BRITISH INDIA - BACK FROM THE UK
“...one
of Aussie rock’s best releases this year, if not
the best.”
– Vivienne Hill, Tsunami Magazine
“Thieves will see the band rise to all the right
places.” – Ben Preece, Time Off
Melbourne band BRITISH INDIA continue to live up to
their reputation as one of Australia’s hardest
working bands.
As soon as they finished the massive launch tour for
their hit second album Thieves, British India
quietly slipped away to the UK for a not so quiet overseas
adventure. British India flew to England, got
deported, returned in time to sell out their London
showcase, impressed label execs with their pop
prowess and ravaging live show – all this before
daredevil guitarist Nic Wilson found time to impale
his feet on an ancient castle gate pike, forcing the
band to cancel their Glasgow show.
Now that British India have sowed those royal oats,
these Oz indie mavericks
return home to play headlining shows, and a heap of
festival dates in Australia!
Beginning next week, British India will play Sugarland
Tavern in Bundaberg
on Thursday 9 October, then O Dowd’s Rockhampton
in Rockhampton on Friday 10 October,
before they take on the Sounds Of Spring Festival in
Brisbane on Saturday 11 October.
The band have also announced shows at Waves Nightclub
in Wollongong on Friday 24 October,
the Peninsula Lounge in Moorooduc on Saturday 1 November,
and two shows at the Corner Hotel
in Melbourne on November 3 & 4 (Melbourne Cup Eve
& Day) as well as these festivals: Sounds In The
Ground
in Sydney on Saturday 18 October, The Village Fair Festival
in Bathurst, NSW on Saturday 25 October,
Homebake (sold out) in Sydney on Saturday 6 December,
and Falls Festival (sold out)
in Lorne, VIC on Monday 29 December, with more shows
to be announced soon.
Phew! Australia’s hardest working band indeed.
It’s an exciting time in British India’s
growing empire.

ANGUS & JULIA STONE'S DEBUT ALBUM "A BOOK LIKE
THIS"
IS OFFICIALLY PLATNUM!
Angus and Julia Stone’s debut album ‘A Book
Like This’ has officially reached platinum sales
in Australia! The album has so far featured three beautifully
crafted singles“The Beast”, “Wasted”
and “Just A Boy.” Released just under a
year ago, the Stones have quietly been achieving major
success.
With a recent national sell out theatre tour of Australia
under their belt, the brother and sister duo are busy
taking their music to the world. This month they are
playing at summer festivals throughout UK/Europe including
Holland, Germany and Scotland. They have received rave
reviews from their performance at the Big Chill Festival
in England last weekend, with The Independent describing
them as “Going down like a brief spell of sunshine
here, you should watch this space: they have a subtle
ethereal touch – especially the exquisite ballad
“Just A Boy” …that may sail them into
the mainstream.”
Next stop for Angus and Julia will be the US, where
they will launch ‘A Book Like This” in September
and then follow up with shows in November.

78 SAAB RELEASE NEW ALBUM & ANNOUNCE SHOWS
78
Saab reside in good company. Over the past
ten years, they have produced timeless music that sits
comfortably alongside the likes of Died Pretty, The
Church and The Triffids. They present a world that is
uniquely their own, but also a part of the legacy of
those great bands who came before them. Now, 78
Saab are set to play their first shows in
quite some time.
'The
Bells Line' is the culmination of two years
writing, thinking and rehearsing. It's the self-imposed
“luxury” of artists disinclined to rush things lest
they create anything less than what they're aiming for.
On their first two albums, ( “Picture A Hum,
Can't Hear A Sound” and “Crossed Lines”
both on Ivy League), 78 Saab
established their reputation by creating their own world
of wide open skies, city living, country remembrances
and constant dreaming, all set to a soundtrack provided
by Ben Nash's unique sweet voice, Jake Andrew's distinctive
melodic guitar lines, and the loose metronomic swing
of Nicholai Danko on drums and Garth Tregillgas on bass.
Songs such as “Sunshine”, “No Illusions”
and “Beat Of Your Drum”
set a standard of timeless song writing ability for
which this Sydney four piece have become much loved.
'The
Bells Line' is an album full of atmosphere.
This new collection of Ben Nash portraits celebrates
how small our lives are, set against the backdrop of
the wider world and enormous landscapes we live in.
The sky, satellites, stars, sleep, dreams, nostalgia
and sleeplessness are the recurring themes in Nash's
lyrics. The widescreen ambition in the playing of the
band and sounds curated by producer Wayne Connolly are
the perfect accompaniment to the lyrical sentiments.
The magic of 78 Saab lies in their
ability to take subjects that are every day and within
our immediate experience, and lay a gauze over them,
making the every day seem dream-like, magical, and beyond
the mundane.

‘IN GHOST COLOURS NATIONAL TOUR’
JUNE 2008
With
the stardust having barely settled following the release
of Cut Copy’s chart topping sophomore album In
Ghost Colours and having dazzled audiences with their
appearance at the recent V Festival, come June the masters,
purveyors and destroyers of indie-dance Cut Copy (Dan
Whitford, Tim Hoey & Mitchell Scott) are set to
embark on a full-fledged run of national headline dates
supported by 2 DFA special guests, happy house hero
The Juan McLean (USA) & The Shocking Pinks (NZ).
The Cutters comet, otherwise known as 'In Ghost Colours',
rocked the world when it came hurtling to Earth on March
22, tearing up both the Aria Album Chart and the iTunes
Album Chart smashing the #1 spot on debut. Having been
four years in the making, Cutters were in shock and
utterly over the moon upon hearing the news of taking
home the top slot.
Coinciding with the forthcoming tour will be the ‘official
release’ of the epic sax-house anthem Hearts On
Fire. Blazed out in its new album-version glory, Hearts
On Fire will be accompanied by the additional remixing
work of the Midnight Juggernauts, Holy Ghost! &
Knightlife.
Cut Copy’s live show has been likened to that
of a lunar eclipse, a perfect harmony of celestial events
which results in thousands putting down what they were
doing to shed glittery tears of joy at the phenomena.
With tickets set to sell out in record time, fans should
get in early to avoid missing out. Tickets on sale Thursday

PNAU
‘WE ARE BACK’ TOUR 2008
As
the world now knows, Australia’s electronic crossover
pioneers, PNAU, are absolutely smashing it right now.
The new album started with a huge amount of "album
of the year" type reviews; it picked up a J Awards
nomination for the best record of the year;
Sir Elton John had the boys over for high tea and declared
the record to be the best Australian album released
in ten years (& has since been spreading
the 'Pnau word' worldwide). Pnau then dominated the
Boiler Room at the Big Day Out festival this year -
mind you, in a berth between Dizzie Rascal
and LCD Soundsystem. They scored their first plays on
the UK’s Radio 1 with Pete Tong and are now releasing
‘Wild Strawberries’ EP in the UK in
April - and finally, have secured sizzling new Moshi
Moshi artist Breakbot (France) to remix current cross
over smash hit single ‘Baby’.
And now for the crowning glory! At last we are excited
to announce Pnau’s much anticipated “WE
ARE BACK” national tour. Played in the key
of “Hell Yeah’, if this tour had hands,
it would slap you on the backside! Adding to the line
up are disco pop wonderkids, Van She, & the continental
sounds of the Paris underground via the fabulous Beakbot.
This massive tour is proudly presented by triple j,

Die!Die!Die!
Promises Promises - Australian Tour April 2008
NME
"Promises Promises…a rumbling fistfight bedecked
with all the bite, bile and urgency of Pixies wrestling
Big Black on the precipice of Hell."
Music Australia Guide **** "Hot melodies, droning
guitars, brilliant vocals…a classic blast of punk
energy"
Monster Children Magazine "Promises Promises is
a boon."
Groupie ***** "Insanely amazing second album from
New Zealandish post hardcore punk band Die Die Die -
Kings of the post millennial punk scene."
Oyster Magazine "This is post punk for a new generation."
MX Newspaper "Listen, listen, listen."
Hailing from New Zealand's deep, dark south, the rawkish
post-hardcore punk band DieDieDie have long made it
their mission to not only deliver enigmatic, blistering
tracks on searing releases - but to bring their brutal
live show to as many towns as they can, as often as
possible.
Due to bring their brand new record Promises Promises
to an eager east-coast of Australia this April - off
the back of a recent jaunt to SXSW and a breakneck tour
of the USA and UK - the group are set to keep this reputation
intact.
Having previously worked with the legendary Steve Albini
(Nirvana, Pixies, Shellac) in Chicago, and Dale Cotton
(HDU, Dimmer) on their brilliant Locust Weeks and eponymous
EPs, Promises Promises found them in the studio with
New Zealand's Shayne Carter.
Revisiting their brawling, abrasive sound, Promises
Promises and its pummelling, primal rhythms and shard-like
guitar work looks set to enhance the act's well earned
mis€t-savant reputation.
Promises Promises is out now on Etch n Sketch Records

ANGUS
& JULIA STONE
TOURING NATIONALLY IN JUNE
With their debut album “A Book Like This”
officially now released in the UK and a 30 date overseas
tour scheduled for April/May incorporating the UK,
Ireland and Europe, the Northern Beaches duo Angus and
Julia Stone will definitely be looking forward to heading
home for their national tour in June.
Angus and Julia are no strangers in the UK as they spent
most of March supporting Newton Faulkner on his sold
out UK tour performing to over 20,000
people and also opening for David Gray in Manchester.
“A Book Like This” (out now thru Capital
/ EMI) has already received amazing reviews from the
often cynical UK press with
MOJO giving it 3 stars, and UNCUT magazine 4 stars and
exclaiming “their understated magnetic live shows
here surely mean this Australian brother-sister
duo's sizeable homeland following will soon be matched
in the UK”. The superlatives keep coming including
Nottingham Evening Post stating that “there’s
certainly enough evidence here to justify the hype with
it's whimsical and dreamy folk album packed with beautiful
melodies” and The Clash magazine highlighting
the special packaging “The Australian brother-sister
duo’s debut reminds you of the pleasure of the
physical album”.
In Australia, Angus & Julia have just played to
thousands of people at The Blues Festivals around the
country and the album “A Book Like This”
has already
sold 50,000+ albums. While the pleasingly unassuming
Angus & Julia are refreshingly modest about their
talent and remain nonplussed regarding their success,
their star undeniably continues to ascend at pace.
The third single from the album, “Just A Boy”
an Angus lead track is at Radio/TV now.
Tickets for Angus and Julia's June tour will go on sale
Thursday, April 10.

A
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT FROM CUT COPY HQ
It's
time to get seriously excited as Australia's masters,
purveyors & shining stars of disco mashed pop....none
other than Cut Copy, are on the verge of releasing the
next installment from their massively anticipated new
album, the guitar driven single ‘So Haunted’.Being
the follow up to the hit single 'Hearts On Fire', this
appropriately titled new track, is the second taste
of what's to come from their forthcoming long player
- 'In Ghost Colours' - due for release in the first
quarter of 2008 thru Modular Records. Being an epic
in itself and written in three parts, this new song
is best described by the band as a three part odyssey
whereby the verses are all de-tuned beds of noise originally
recorded within Cut Copy's bedrooms; and with choruses
reminisce of sprawling ELO harmonies and lush guitars
(don't pretend you don't know ELO!); and an outro being
the result of a prog out session at legendary DFA studios
earlier this year.
By the way, 'So Haunted' features the co-production
talents of Tim Goldsworthy (DFA, The Loving Hand) and
demonstrates Cut Copy's ambition to want to experiment
with popular music song structure, with the resulting
find harmony amongst the noise. Need we say more.
Coinciding with the new release of this hit single,
Cut Copy will step out from the rehearsal (& recording)
studio and onto the stage performing a limited selection
of live dates across the east coast of Australia with
special guests, Melbourne's DAMN ARMS (also with a new
album, 'The Live Artex' released Nov 3rd) and Cutters
Records dance floor sensation discovery, Knightlife
(who has just released his debut vinyl piece 'I').
"So Haunted" available

JET
TO PERFORM AT CENTRE SQUARE AND AFL GRAND FINAL
THE
AFL has announced that the internationally-acclaimed Melbourne
rock band Jet will perform at the MCG on the last Saturday
in September as part of the 2007 Toyota Grand Final
celebrations.
Jet
will perform pre-match on the MCG, as well as providing
post-match entertainment at Centre Square, the corporate
hospitality village which will be established for the
first time in 2007.
The
AFL's Chief Commercial and Broadcasting Officer, Mr
Gillon McLachlan, said the introduction of Centre Square
had allowed the AFL to contract a world-class act for
football's biggest day.
“We
are thrilled to have Jet perform on the MCG as part
of the revamped Grand Final pre-match entertainment
and also at Centre Square after the match,” Mr McLachlan
said.
“The
Toyota AFL Grand Final is the biggest day on the sporting
calendar and in recent years the AFL has taken significant
steps to build the entertainment in the lead-up to the
match, as well as the post-game celebrations.
“This
year's establishment of Centre Square has also provided
us with the resources to secure an international act
in Jet.”
Formed
in suburban Melbourne, Jet burst onto the world music
scene in
2003
with their debut album Get Born. The album sold over
3.5 million copies and won many awards, including the
2003 MTV Music Award for Best Rock Video and six ARIA
Awards in 2004. Jet's second album, Shine On, was released
last October and the band is currently touring in Europe.
Jet's members have split football allegiances - brothers
Nic and Chris Cester are vehement Collingwood supporters
while Mark Wilson and Cameron Muncey are passionate
Geelong fans.
Jet's
lead singer Nic Cester said: "We're thrilled to
be playing at one of the greatest sporting events in
the world. Growing up in Melbourne and following the
footy all of our lives and getting to play at the Grand
Final is every kid's dream. Of course we imagined that
we'd be kicking the winning goal on the final siren,
but playing a couple of our tunes to 100,000 people
before the game itself is the musical equivalent.
"Somehow
Jet have earned a reputation for enjoying a night out,
so we're happy to add to that reputation and be part
of the inaugural Centre Square post-match entertainment
the AFL is putting on. We'll be asking for Dim Sims
and footy franks on our rider for sure," Nic
said.
Mr
McLachlan said Centre Square, the village for 4300 corporate
guests, would now be held at Punt Road Oval in 2007
and the public live site would move from Punt Road Oval
to Federation Square, where the Live Site will run for
six days.
“The
premiership team – as in previous years –
will be presented at the Live Site now at Federation
Square and will be the conclusion of six days of free
entertainment,” Mr McLachlan
“The
Centre Square is a collaborative project with the AFL
and clubs working together to deliver an enhanced Grand
Final experience. This project is the next step in the
development of Toyota AFL Grand Final Week.”
AFL
Chief Commercial and Broadcasting Officer Gillon McLachlan
is available for further comment. Please contact Michelle
Clyne: 03 9643 1926.

78
SAAB NEW ALBUM AND SHOWS ANNOUNCED
78
Saab reside in good company. Over the past
ten years, they have produced timeless music that sits
comfortably alongside the likes of Died Pretty, The
Church and The Triffids. They present a world that is
uniquely their own, but also a part of the legacy of
those great bands who came before them. Now, 78
Saab are set to play their first shows for
the year. They have announced two intimate shows in
Melbourne and Sydney in September, ahead of the release
of their third album on Ivy League Records, 'The
Bells Line'.
'The
Bells Line' is the culmination of two years
writing, thinking and rehearsing.
If
you want to be among the first to hear the stunning
new songs from 'The Bells Line', get
yourself along to 78 Saab's shows in Melbourne and Sydney
this September.

SOMETHING
FOR KATE ANNOUNCE 'THE MURMUR YEARS' TOUR
One
of the most important careers in contemporary Australian
music will be drawn together into one package when acclaimed
Melbourne trio Something For Kate release The Murmur
Years, a detailed two-disc collection (track listing
below) that hits stores on August 18. To
celebrate the release of this milestone record, Something
For Kate will be embarking on a national tour titled
‘The Murmur Tour' (dates below) with tickets going on
sale July 5.
“We've
made five albums now so I guess it's worth looking
back at what we've done so far,” notes the band's
singer, guitarist and songwriter, Paul Dempsey. “It's
surprising, kind of surreal, to hear over ten years
of work put together.”
The
33 track double album, which combines material selected
by the band from their early EPs as well their five
studio albums – out of which two albums have reached
#1 and two albums have reached Top 10 on the Australian
charts – also features a brand new track, “The
Futurist”, written and released to mark the release
of The Murmur Years (named for the then Sony Music imprint
the band signed to in 1996).
“This
could have been called ‘Being John Howard'. It's about
fear and money and security and living a cloistered
little existence in a meek, conservative utopia where
the future doesn't exist. I think it's quite funny but
I'll probably be on my own there” explains
Dempsey of the urgent, soaring “The Futurist”, which
will be debuting to expectant fans via radio on July
16.
Something
For Kate also recently recorded a special ‘Originals
Session' for Itunes featuring a plethora of live tracks
from their back catalogue intertwined with interview
segments in between songs that give the listener deeper
insight into the band's music and career. The SFK Itunes
Original's session is currently sitting at #3 on the
Itunes album chart. A true testament to the band's loyal
fan base and their ability to generate strong sales
in the digital world.
That
sense of stasis has never been a problem for Something
For Kate – Dempsey, bassist Stephanie Ashworth
and drummer Clint Hyndman – who have out-stepped
expectations since their earliest gigs. The group has
enjoyed a stellar career to date, with album sales in
excess of 500,000 copies and a host of accolades: 11
ARIA Award nominations, JJJ's Album of the Year and
repeatedly making the top ten of the Hottest 100, twice
being bestowed with Album of the Year by the readers
of Rolling Stone, as well as nods for Single of the
Year and Best Band, and also picking up Best Live Band
at the Live Music Awards.
From
the tiny stages of Melbourne's indie venues to playing
before 50,000 people on the main stage at the Big Day
Out, Something For Kate have set a benchmark for powerful,
invigorating rock music. Paul Dempsey's lyrics have
proved personally compelling while capturing the tenor
of the times, while the band's live performances have
repeatedly sold out venues across the country and created
a legion of dedicated fans.
The
Murmur Years in no way marks an ending for Something
For Kate, but it does make clear what an outstanding
career they've had to date: 33 tracks can barely contain
the vision and verve they've already encompassed.

A
SPECIAL EVENING WITH TONI COLLETTE & THE FINISH
Ladies
& gentlemen, after much fast yet careful planning,
it is with great pleasure that we once again are able
to present the exquisite sounds and superb writing talents
of the iconic Australian actress Toni Collette together
with her most talented and amazing band, The Finish,
who will be performing a special one off ‘warm
up’ Sydney show coinciding with the their appearance
on the massive Live Earth Australia concert at Aussie
Stadium. With the recent release of the brilliant new
single ‘Look Up’ from the stunning debut
album, ‘Beautiful Awkward Pictures’ , Tonii
has taken time off from the live stages returning to
her ‘day job’ promoting the forthcoming
release of the movie ‘Evening’. If there's
one track on the 'Beautiful Awkward Pictures' album
that shines more brightly than others, it is 'Look Up'.
Fans, reviewers and radio programmers that have heard
the album have all highlighted this track as a glorious
and uplifting piece of song writing by Toni Collette,
coupled with an arrangement that allows her vocals to
really shine and the band to rise with her to heart
pounding heights.
The album 'Beautiful Awkward Pictures' is a modest collection
of musical gems, at times raw, at times rich, and unapologetically
eclectic in style. The lush string arrangements support
Toni's powerful but vulnerable vocal skills while piano
strains permeate the entire recording.
This is Toni's debut album & it contains eleven
self-penned tracks written over the last ten years and
charts her growth as a person and an artist. Laying
herself open in her usual honest and unaffected way,
these lyrics are often poetic, intimate observations
of life and the world around her and this makes for
a heady, soul-stirring mix.
'Look Up’ is accompanied by a stunning video directed
by the very talented Paul Goldman & Alice Bell (the
genius partnership behind the award winning movie, Suburban
Mayhem) which can currently be seen on rotation on all
music orientated programs and channels.
Please make sure to get in early as tickets will sell
fast for this show!

LIVE
EARTH AUSTRALIA REVEALED
SYDNEY
[Tuesday, 8 May 2007] -- Organisers today announced
details of the Australian curtain-raising show for the
7-continent, 24-hour Live Earth GLOBAL concerts to be
held on 7/7/07. The Australian concert will be staged
at Aussie Stadium in Sydney.
Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, May 18 at 9.00am
EST.
The global concert on July 7 will begin in Sydney and
continue across all 7 continents, concluding with a
show in the US.
Speaking via a video link-up at the event’s official
launch at Aussie Stadium today, Live Earth co-chair
Al Gore said: “The climate crisis is a global
problem that requires a global response. That’s
exactly what Live Earth is. On 7/7/07, Live Earth will
touch over 2 billion people with 24 hours of live music
across 7 continents and an urgent, hopeful message to
trigger a worldwide movement to combat the climate crisis.
This movement begins here at Aussie Stadium.”
Live on stage at the Sydney show will be:
CROWDED HOUSE
JACK JOHNSON
WOLFMOTHER
JOHN BUTLER TRIO
MISSY HIGGINS
ESKIMO JOE
SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM
PAUL KELLY
GHOSTWRITERS
TONI COLLETTE & THE FINISH
BLUE KING BROWN
Speaking on behalf of Live Earth international Lily
Sobhani, Live Earth’s Global Head of Events stated
“Live Earth Australia will kick off 24 hours of
music spanning all 7 continents to focus the world against
global warming,” Sobhani said. “Over 100
headlining artists ranging from Madonna to The Police
to Wolfmother, all of whom are donating their time to
perform at the concerts, will inspire an audience of
over 2 billion people. Live Earth is designed to trigger
a mass movement to combat our climate crisis. The climate
crisis touches everyone, everywhere. Live Earth is about
motivating people in every corner of the planet to ‘Answer
the Call’ and make meaningful and lasting changes
in their lives to combat global warming.”
Live Earth is a monumental music event that will bring
together more than 2 billion people to combat the climate
crisis. Live Earth’s 24 hours of music across
7 continents will deliver a call to action and the solutions
needed to answer the call. Live Earth marks the beginning
of a multi-year campaign led by The Alliance for Climate
Protection to move individuals, corporations and governments
to take action. Whilst this event is about raising awareness,
not money, all nett proceeds will go to The Alliance
for Climate Protection, other international non-Government
organisations (NGOs), Australian NGOs and projects on
the ground in Australia yet to be announced.
Staging Live Earth Australia is the same team of event
producers that came together to mount the celebrated
WaveAid tsunami benefit concert in Sydney in 2005. They
are the Australian concert promoter Michael Chugg of
Chugg Entertainment,, Mark Pope Music [event producer
of the ARIA Awards] and us very proud folk here at IMC
Agency.
“We’ve all been involved in putting on some
big gigs over the years, but nothing rivals the scale
of this one,” said Michael Chugg. “We’re
thrilled to be opening the show for the world and rapt
about showcasing some of Australia’s finest talent
to the rest of the planet. We’d also like to thank
those artists who are so generously giving their time
to help spearhead one of the world’s greatest
challenges of the 21st century”.
Climate change expert Dr Michael Molitor explained how
all the Live Earth concerts around the world will be
as green as possible, implementing a new Green Event
Guidelines that organisers hope will become the model
for carbon neutral concerts and other live events in
the future.
“The key message of Live Earth is that everyone
can – and must – be a part of the solution,”
said Molitor. “Everyone can take simple measures
that will greatly assist the global effort to reduce
carbon emissions. Live Earth is driving global awareness
about the solutions and engaging people around the world
to undertake personal actions both at home and at work.”
Live Earth promoters have worked closely with the NSW
Ministry of Transport and, in what is a first for any
major event staged in the Moore Park precinct, the ticket
price for Live Earth will include free use of public
transport [all buses, trains and ferries] to and from
Aussie Stadium. This will minimise the carbon footprint
created by getting the crowd to and from the show. Organisers
will encourage all concert attendees to use the public
transport supplied.

SOMETHING
FOR KATE and ANGUS & JULIA STONE Live at The Shed
'The
Shed was born into humble beginnings at the 2006 Sydney
Royal Easter Show. Far be it from us to imply this was
a miracle similar to a tale featuring a sole guiding
star and a humble manger…but let’s just
keep that in mind. Nestled amongst the madness that
is the Show, in 2006 The Shed was a respite from the
Showbags, rides and as cute or smelly as they are, the
animals. It was a place to dance, a place to rock out.
Last year’s stars included the Whitlam’s,
Alex Lloyd, Richard Clapton and a cast of who’s
who in Australian music. But let’s not brag –
or maybe we will. As the Show is one of the biggest
events in Australia, and due to the awesome demand,
The Shed will now be rebuilt and feature acts on all
14 days.
Each day will kick off with smooth jazz grooves from
some of Australia’s leading exponents of their
art. Follow this up with some of our country’s
best Improv stand-up comics doing their own brand of
'Thank God you’re here' Shed style. By 4pm its
getting thirsty so we will amp up proceedings with The
Crème of Crop with stars like Aria award winners
You Am I, Something For Kate, Ash Grundwald, The Fumes,
Josh Pyke, Killing Heidi and party favourites Mental
As Anything. So tune in… turn on and drop by Sydney’s
newest 'it' venue. But don’t wait too long as
it only lasts two weeks and then like that star (or
manger) its gone'

ART
OF FIGHTING - NEW ALBUM, NEW DATES
On the eve of an international jaunt that sees the band
perform in the UK and Japan, Art of Fighting announce
local tour dates in support of their beautifully intuitive
third album Runaways. Supporting them throughout the
tour will be the wonderful SubAudible Hum.
Described by the band’s front man, Ollie Browne,
as “open and relaxed”, the songs captured
on Runaways are a mix of the introspective, insightful,
and brutally honest. Included among them are the two
radio favourites ‘Free You’ and ‘Eastbound’.
Unlike previous Art of Fighting recordings, which were
carefully prepared before entering the studio and putting
songs to tape, Runaways continually evolved throughout
the recording process. With the band happily living
ordinary lives in their home town, the genesis of Art
of Fighting’s third album involved a long and
collaborative process which saw the four band mates
relax as they took the time to let their new songs unfold.
With the help of engineer Steven Schram [Ground Components]
at the Guruland and Martin Street studios [both in Melbourne],
Art of Fighting set about capturing their live sound
on record. Long time collaborator Tim Whitten joined
the band for mixing in the closing stages of 2006.
“When we play live the sound is very stripped
back, very spacious,” says Ollie. “We wanted
to capture that as much as possible.”
“We wanted this album to be very direct, warm
and honest: the sound of us in a room.”

ALEX
LLOYD Last shows in Australia before moving to London
with Special Guests, Joel Plaskett (Canada)
During the course of his
illustrious career, the very talented and multi award
winning singer/songwriter, Alex Lloyd, has achieved
a phenomenal degree of success across Australia. Now
having released his much anticipated fourth (& self
titled) studio album, Alex is once again pursuing greater
heights with a temporary move to London for 2007 to
write and collaborate for his next album as well as
including touring commitments in the UK & Europe.
Having had an exceptional year with the radio hits,
‘Never Meant To Fail’ and ‘The Wonder'
from the platinum selling self titled album, it's now
time for Alex to concentrate on new material
Despite now becoming a household name, Alex Lloyd is,
quite simply, one of the finest and most popular singer-songwriters
Australia has produced. His three solo albums –
1999’s ‘Black The Sun’, 2001’s
‘Watching Angels Mend’ and 2003’s
‘Distant Light’ - have collectively sold
more than half a million copies and following the release
of each album Alex has been awarded an ARIA for Best
Male Artist (2000, 2001, 2003).
As a special treat, Alex Lloyd will be performing two
intimate (full band) shows at Sydney's iconic venue,
The Basement, & with a very limited capacity. With
special guest support, Joel Plaskett (with band touring
Australia and being a major star in his home territory,
Canada) these shows are destined to sell out fast. Details
as follows:

NEWSFLASH
- TONI COLLETTE & THE FINISH ANNOUNCE NATIONAL TOUR
Up
There Management & IMC Agency Proudly Present
An Evening With The Rather Brilliant
TONI COLLETTE
& THE FINISH
NATIONAL TOUR 07
In conjunction with the release of the stunning new
single ‘Look Up’
Ladies & gentlemen, after much fast yet careful
planning, it is with great pleasure that we once again
are able to present the exquisite sounds and superb
writing talents of the iconic Australian actress Toni
Collette together with her most talented and amazing
band, The Finish, who will once again be performing
a select few (& rare) set of dates coinciding with
the release of the brilliant new single ‘Look
Up’ from the stunning debut album, ‘Beautiful
Awkward Pictures’. If there's one track on the
'Beautiful Awkward Pictures' album that shines more
brightly than others, it is 'Look Up'. Fans, reviewers
and radio programmers that have heard the album have
all highlighted this track as a glorious and uplifting
piece of song writing by Toni Collette, coupled with
an arrangement that allows her vocals to really shine
and the band to rise with her to heart pounding heights.
The agreed recording ethos was that performance would
hold sway over studio trickery, feeling over formula,
and with this release that becomes very obvious. Producer
and friend, musician Willy Zygier and award-winning
engineer and producer Paul McKercher have taken a back
seat and allowed Toni & the Finish to stretch their
musical wings and soar, delivering four minutes of wonderous
inspiration.
Having now found limited time within an unbelievably
hectic work schedule, Toni Collette and the Finish will
(for the first time since the release of ‘Beautiful
Awkward Pictures’) travel the entire nation playing
extremely limited dates in each capital city. Selling
out all shows on her last limited run of dates, this
is a tour not to be missed.
'Look Up’ is accompanied by a stunning new video
directed by the very talented Paul Goldman & Alice
Bell (the genius partnership behind the award winning
movie, Suburban Mayhem) which can currently be seen
on rotation on all music orientated programs and channels.
Currently in the midst of universal acclaim and many
a prestigious award nomination for her brilliant performance
in the hit movie 'Little Miss Sunshine', our very own
Toni will be taking some time out from the 'limelight'
(so to speak) so as to pursue this, the first National
tour for Toni Collette And The Finish. Make sure to
get in early as tickets will sell fast!

WOLFMOTHER
COME HOME FOR A WHIRLWIND TOUR IN MARCH
After
packing major venues right around the world during 2006
WOLFMOTHER have announced that they will return home
in March / April for a handful of very special concerts.
It’s been a triumphant year for the Sydney trio
with over a million global sales for their acclaimed
debut album and the accolades are still rolling in.
Internationally, their CD made the Best Albums lists
in Spin, NME and U.S. Rolling Stone for 2006, while
the band was nominated for a Pollstar Concert Industry
Award in the category of Best New Touring Artist.
The trio has also been nominated for a Grammy Award
for Best Hard Rock Release and they are hot tips to
also receive a nomination at the Brit Awards.
Here at home WOLFMOTHER swept the ARIA Awards late last
year (including the Best Group Award) and they were
also handed the gong for the publicly voted Channel
V Oz Artist of the Year. They recently blitzed the Falls
and Southbound festivals propelling their album back
into the Aussie top 10 an extraordinary 60 weeks after
its initial release!
Now 2007 will start in the same way that 2006 finished
… with lots more WOLFMOTHER touring.
The band will hit the ground running in Japan for a
whirlwind run of dates at the end of this month, before
heading back to the UK, Europe and Canada in February/March
to play their largest headline tour of those markets
to date including sold out shows at London’s famous
Hammersmith Apollo.
They will then head home for this very special tour
in March/April. Special guests on the band’s own
shows will be post punk sonic rockers Wolf & Cub
who are also touring with Wolfmother on most of their
overseas dates.

ANGUS
& JULIA STONE ANNOUNCE OZ & UK TOUR
The
beginning of last year saw the formation of Angus &
Julia Stone when they decided it made much more sense
to work together than playing music alone. They
pulled their demo songs together and created their debut
EP “Chocolates & Cigarettes” which has gone on to
do pretty exciting things.
Whilst
in the UK in the latter part of the year, they were
invited into Chris Potter's studio (The Verve/Richard
Ashcroft) to record….. In the meantime Fran Healy
from UK band Travis who is a label mate, heard their
debut EP and also invited them to his house to record.
These recordings will be released as a companion
piece with the first EP, initially as a single disc
entitled “Heart Full of Wine” on 3rd February then as
a double EP on 10 th March.
Angus
& Julia Stone will be heading out on their ‘Heart
Full of Wine' tour in February in both Australia and
the UK along with picking up some Festivals along their
travels. They will also be releasing some lovely
self-directed videos from these EP's which you can view
onwww.youtube.com/angusandjuliastone
in the coming months. … as Music Week UK
rightly stated…. “Catch them before they go electric”.

"Imagine what Primal Scream would sound

After ten months of extensive touring back and forth
across the Atlantic, The Morning After Girls have finally
announced their return to Australia. 2006 saw them playing
packed out rooms in the UK at Reading and Leeds, T in
the Park, Latitude, Oxegen and in the US at the CMJ

some coveted gigs on the NME Brat Tour, Zane Lowe's

with the likes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Duke

completed a sold out three-week London residency and
completed a tour with The Brian Jonestown Massacre across
the UK. On the way home they did stop off to headline
their own show in Japan as well as a coveted instore

| DIE!
DIE! DIE!
Australian Tour & New EP 'Locust Weeks' in stores
November 24th
Connecting the musical dots between Dunedin, Auckland,
Chicago, New York
City, and London, Die! Die! Die! are a three-piece band
originally from
Dunedin that in just over a year have solidified their
reputation as one
of the best bands to emerge from that part of the world
in over a
decade. With an emphasis on pummeling, primal rhythms
shot through with
shard-like guitar work, Die! Die! Die! create a driving
sound that is
immediate and visceral, while retaining enough melody
to keep their
songs in your head long after their set has come to
a close.
Formed in November 2003, Die! Die! Die! quickly bought
a van and started
playing as many shows in as many towns as they could
in both New Zealand
and Australia, including both Homebake and Meredith
festivals, support
slots for Wire and Franz Ferdinand, two large-scale
national tour
supports already this year for the reformed Straightjacket
Fits and then
the renamed Shihad, and numerous shows in the USA and
UK.
Die! Die! Die! left New Zealand in March 2005 for an
extensive tour of
the USA - where they recorded their debut album with
Steve Albini
(Nirvana, Pixies, Shellac) at his studio Electrical
Audio in Chicago -
before heading to the UK and Sweden. Although the recording
went well,
the tour was cut short by bereavement. It was around
this time that
their debut eponymous six-track EP recorded with Dale
Cotton (HDU,
Dimmer) was released in New Zealand.
Things began to move quickly from there, with the Straightjacket
Fits
tour, the return to the UK to master the album at the
famed EMI Abbey

Presents 'AN EVENING WITH GOTYE'
Gotye is Wally De Backer. He plays drums, percussion
and piano, and he writes, sings and produces tracks
at his home, in Mentone, Victoria, Australia. Gotye’s
sound is a melting pot of samples from sources far and
wide, mixed with Wally's home recorded sounds to form
original songs that are as much influenced by the ’80’s
British electro of Depeche Mode and mock-lounge pop
of Roxy Music, as the scratchy sounds of old noir soundtracks
and majestic orchestras of John Barry and Henry Mancini.
The cut’n'paste approach of hip-hop djs also figures
prominently in the arrangements, inspired especially
by the musicality of San Francisco's finest sample-
composers, DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist. The results are
songs that both reference and incorporate styles and
sounds of the past, while showcasing Wally's unique
songwriting in a broad web of sonic environments. Wally
songs display the diversity of his listening interests,
incorporating sounds from a wide spectrum of sources.
They encompass a variety of styles, tempos and textures
in their mix of organic and electronic sources, experimenting
with form and tone while nevertheless clearly exhibiting
Wally's love of pop music (in any of its manifestations
and mutations over the last half a century).
And with such an eclectic yet brilliant synopsis of
the world that is Gotye, we here at IMC are excited
to announce that the extremely talented Wally De Backer
will be presenting his Gotye extravaganza live on stage
with a cast of thousands (well....sort of) - and including
a string section to cover those complex bits & pieces
so richly portrayed on the album. It's ONE SHOW ONLY

COLLETTE & THE FINISH Proudly Present The Debut
Album
'Beautiful Awkward Pictures' and RARE Tour
Dates
Ladies
& gentlemen, after much fanfare and many a cryptic
hint, it is with great pleasure that we are finally
(and officially) able to present the exquisite velvet
voice and superb writing talents of the iconic Australian
actress Toni Collette, who on October 7, will independently
release her debut album ‘Beautiful Awkward Pictures’
with her band The Finish. Whilst the wait has seemingly
been a virtual eternity, it is both important and of
interest to note that Toni has always sung - in fact
as a teenager she sang jingles for Triple J and of course
we all remember her beautiful vocal performances in
highly acclaimed films ‘Cosi’ and ‘Connie
and Carla’.
As the story unfolds, it is obvious that Toni has been
writing music for a very long time – even one
of the tracks on this album was penned when she was
22 years old. Of course with her busy schedule as a
well respected global screen star it has been difficult
for Toni to find the right time to record, release and
tour her music. Now in 2006, Toni Collette & The
Finish will perform a select number of very special
album launch shows this coming November culminating
in a unique performance at the sold out HOMEBAKE Festival
in December at Sydney’s Domain, along side the
crème of Australia’s contemporary artists.
'Beautiful Awkward Pictures' charts Toni’s fluctuating
emotions as she’s worked her way round the globe
and reflects her growth as a person and an artist. Laying
herself open in her usual honest and unaffected way,
Toni’s lyrics are often poetic, intimate observations
of life and the world around her and this makes for
an eclectic, soul-stirring mix. All eleven tracks on
this stunning album were penned by Toni who enlisted
the talents of Willy Zygier to co-produce and Paul Mc
Kercher (Augie March/ You Am I/ The Cruel Sea/ Eskimo
Joe) to mix the album. Toni Collette & The Finish
features accomplished musicians in their own right,
including Toni Collette’s husband Dave Galafassi
on drums and percussion, singer/songwriter Glenn Richards
(Augie March) guitar, Pete Farley on bass and David
Lane on piano.
Of this ‘beautifully awkward’ album so long
in the making, Toni Collette said,
“I never wanted this record to be a big loud statement.
I just wanted it to be quiet, organic and very old school,
cruisey in a lo-fi kind of way. It’s like in life
there are the people who talk a lot and need a lot of
attention and then there is someone who is really quiet
- I want my record to be like that quiet person. The
more you get to know it, the more you like it”
The title track from the album is a rich musical gem,
fragile and unapologetically eclectic in style. The
lush string arrangements support Toni's powerful but
vulnerable vocal skills while piano strains permeate
the entire recording. There are no tracks on the 'Beautiful
Awkward Pictures' album that showcase better the gorgeous,
haunting voice with which Toni has been blessed. It
was one of the last written before recording the collection
and as such is a reflection of where Toni currently
sits as an artist. She is, like us all, susceptible
to the normal human frailties that we associate with
the loss of love and yet determined to strive to maintain
bliss. The stunning video for ‘Beautiful Awkward
Pictures’ was shot at dawn on a beach south of
Los Angeles by the 'Aussie Mafia', a loose collection
of Australian film makers living in America. Produced
and directed by Nash Edgerton this piece of art also
sees his brother Joel make a brief cameo and was filmed
as a one shot take, it captures the mood of the track
magnificently.
Of the forthcoming live performances, Toni Collette
said,
“This music has been living within for so many
years. It's really exciting and quite a relief to share
the songs and make it a reality. This is definitely
the record I wanted to make. I am so lucky to play music
with the band that I have and we're all looking forward
to the live shows in November.”

CHURCH - MAGNETIC STRIP TOUR
Fresh
from a pivotal five week US tour culminating in a sold-out
show at the American Music Hall in San Francisco, the
church arrive in Australia for a theatre tour that brings
an end to the last two years of “intimate and
acoustic” concerts.
Electric and dynamically explosive – the new album
“ Uninvited, Like The Clouds” finally gets
its full launch at home, four months after its critically
acclaimed release through Liberation.
"the church are, at heart and their best, psychedelic
electricians, and their full-volume shows in recent
years have been ringing endorsements for their stubborn
longevity."
- David Fricke, Rolling Stone USA (Live at Irving Plaza,
10 August 2006)
Having fully explored the “acoustic re-invention”
of songs old and new, with their 2004 CD “ El
Momento Descuidado”, the church return to full
electric mode in support of their latest offering “Uninvited,
Like The Clouds”.
“Uninvited, Like The Clouds” has received
adoring praise all around the world and the band’s
acoustic album launches here in June were completely
sold out.
"This album, arriving in the 26th year of their
career, is a triumph from the beginning ... It distils
every facet of their distinctive sound without necessarily
borrowing from their classic songs, whether it is their
dreamy, hypnotic art rock or psychedelic pop rock.
- Kathy McCabe DAILY TELEGRAPH SYDNEY - 4/5 STARS
The church – magnetic strip tour coincides with
the release a new four track single “Easy”
which features three exclusive live acoustic tracks:
Day 5 (‘the new album’s most timeless moment’)
and two classics from the band’s 26 year catalogue
– “Constant in Opal” and “Its
No Reason” – the latter a seldom performed
favourite.
Another “sometimes not included”, but greater
favourite “ Under The Milky Way”, saw its
performance of a lifetime when the band combined with
the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to open the Commonwealth
Games earlier this year.
Joining the church – magnetic strip tour as special
guests will be Sydney’s The Valentinos. Hitchcock’s
Regret front man Mark Moldre will also join the line-up
in Sydney and Melbourne.

THE
BLOCK PARTY TOUR
Starring
DJ Peril, N'fa, Suburban Intellect & local guests
Hot
on the heels of DJ Perils ‘King of The Beats’
and N’fa’s ‘Cause and Effect’
solo artist albums comes the announcement that the two
members of 1200 techniques and up and comers Suburban
Intellect are hitting the road for a national tour which
is guaranteed to be one to remember.
With over 20 scene-shaping years in the hip hop biz
under his belt, there are few Australian artists who
could claim to know as much about rocking crowds as
Peril. As a DJ, Peril is known Australia wide for his
ability to get even the most static dancefloor warmed
up and grooving, supporting everyone from Busta Rhymes
to M.I.A, Talib Kweli, Supernatural, Bahamadia, Lincoln
Park and Jean Grae among many others. As 1200 Techniques
DJ/producer, Peril’s deft studio skills saw the
trio transcend their underground status to become the
first Australian hip hop group to cross over into the
mainstream, winning an ARIA in 2002. Now Peril has taken
his contribution to Australian hip hop to the next level,
with his debut artist album ‘King of the Beats’
featuring the smash singles ‘About To Blow’
and ‘Rock Ya Baby’ and a host of collaborations
which have seen the album garnering acclaim far and
wide since its release.
As the frontman of groundbreaking hip hop act 1200 Techniques,
N'fa captivated audiences with his raw and edgy performances.
Now, with the group on a break, the MC returns with
his debut solo album "Cause an Effect". The
collaborations on his record are indicative of N'fa’s
credibility and talent including team-ups with the likes
of Roots Manuva, Mr Yoshiaki from Black Eyed Peas, The
Deceptikonz from New Zealand and of course DJ Peril.
The debut single "Cause an Effect" got major
love from radio across the country including Triple
J, Nova and The Edge, with the Heath Ledger directed
video clip being branded as ‘ripe clip of the
week’ on Channel V as well as also gaining rotation
on Video Hits and MTV. N'fa's live following continues
to build due to his performances at Festivals including
Homebake, Pyramid Rock and Splendour in the Grass festivals.
MC’s Surreal & Nate B have been honing their
skills as Suburban Intellect for some time now. In recent
years Surreal has established himself as one of the
premier freestylers in the country, taking out the Melbourne
heats of the Australian Battle for Supremacy in 2004.
Together with brilliant lyricist Nate B, the duo joined
up with teamed up with producer DJ Peril to create that
perfect hip hop threesome who are known for getting
down and dirty with some hard hitting beats and rhymes.
Suburban Intellect were firmly put on the map when their
single ‘its about to blow’ was embraced
by radio and hip hop lovers alike late in 2005 and since
then the hype has steadily been building. For the block
party tour, well known drummer Ritchie C will add an
extra element to the show which will ensure that their
show will be both explosive and funky.
Peril, N’fa and Suburban Intellect are everything
you’d want in a live show and much more. If you
loved 1200 Techniques and always wished for a follow-up,
your dreams have been answered! Featuring local Djs
and live acts at each event, The block party tour is
guaranteed to be loads of fun!

| JET
COME HOME!
Hirsute
Melbourne rockers return home for two very special shows
Melbourne
four piece rock outfit Jet are delighted to announce
they will return home to play two very special shows
in Melbourne and Sydney come the month of August. Having
spent the past six months in Los Angeles recording the
follow-up to their phenomenally successful debut “Get
Born”, the band are excited to be able to finally
preview a swag of new songs from their forthcoming long
player, as well as taking the opportunity to dust off
all the old favourites.
“After
half a year hunkered down over a hot tape machine, we
can't wait to get on stage at home again and show people
what we've come up with,” said drummer
Chris Cester. “These new songs are something
else, trust us!”
“Amen!”
intoned his calmer, older brother Nic.
Beginning
work on the album in January 2006 with 40 songs written,
the band worked through them all, perfecting, rejecting
and fine tuning until the list was whittled down to
20. These songs formed the basis of the new album. Working
again with Dave Sardy as producer, the band settled
in to Dave's new Hillside Manor studios and got cracking.
The result is a mixture of soul stompin', psychedelic,
rock and roll that has been well worth the wait, and
bears all the hallmarks of a classic rock album from
a band growing in stature as songwriters, without forfeiting
any of the energy that made their debut such a monstrous
calling card.
With
the new album scheduled for September 30 , these two
shows in August will be a once-only opportunity to see
the band in a barely contained state of excitement at
being home again, blasting out a healthy serving of
great new cuts before the album is released.
The
shows also represent the ONLY chance to see Jet live
in Australia in 2006. If you miss these shows, your
chance to see the four gents from Melbourne town won't
come around again this calendar year. Having
last played on these fair shores in December 2004, headlining
Homebake after 2 years of constant touring around the
globe, it's been way too long between drinks, and these
shows promise to be THE rock and roll ticket of the
year.

Causing An Effect
The
first taster from N'fa's forthcoming album is the appropriately
titled and recently released 'First Step EP'
The EP is a perfect (re)introduction to N'fa's unique
formula and style, while also spotlighting his progression
in style.
'First Step' features the hard-hitting "Cause An
Effect", the album's title track and an anthem-in-waiting.
The EP also features
the lead-heavy "Who Wan Test?", a collaboration
with New Zealand hip hop juggernauts, The Deceptikonz
(Dawn Raid Entertainment).
It also includes exclusive remixes from Melbourne based
hip hop wiz kid Styalz Fuego and club veteran Nick Thayer.
"Cause an Effect" has been featured heavily
