There have been
very few acts that have managed to literally set the musical
world on fire in a chaotic manner. Names such as The Jesus
& Mary Chain, Primal Scream, The Psychedelic Furs, The
Pixies, My Bloody Valentine & even our very own Underground
Lovers all fall in to this category. Bands such as these have
both created & inspired discordant melodies that have
captured the collective ears of an international community.
For this reason, we here at IMC are extremely proud to present
the very haunting, the very dark and light, & the very
chaotic and mysterious pop world of The morning after girls.
Hailing from Melbourne (VIC), The morning after girls have
been stirring interest far and wide as word of their most
unique musical style seems to spread.
A few words
about the morning after girls…
So I guess this would be the first sort of formalised 'bio'
as such, that has been written about a relatively new musical
happening called the morning after girls. Whilst not wanting
to go into too much detail about the why's, what's and how's,
I suppose an official statement may be somewhat interesting
to the public, media, music enthusiasts etc, so here goes...
the morning after girls started performing in and around Melbourne
almost two years ago, rolling out their unique brand of psychedelic,
Velvet-Underground-meets-21st-Century-dissillusionment. Incorporating
insightful and intelligent lyrics, melancholic yet discordant
melodies, for and a sound and vision that is truly unique
to the now.
Triple J found the wisdom to spin the band’s brilliant
crafted tune “Straight Thru You” from their first
self-titled EP (released late 2003); everyone from the Black
Rebel Motorcycle Club to the Black Keys also found the wisdom
to invite the band to share a stage. And the band, well, they’ve
found the wisdom to leave all that behind and take things
to another level…
Much has happened since the first EP release, key members
Sacha Lucashenko (voice / guitars) and Martin B. Sleeman (guitars
/ voice) recently relocated to Sydney. The move was inspired
partly to a feeling of personal stagnation, but also to combine
talents with like minded friends; Aimee Nash and Scott Von
Ryper as the Melbourne line-up were unfortunately not able
to relocate due to personal commitments.
The move and the new blood have brought a whole new dimension
to the band and to the music. As the release date of their
second EP approaches (again self-titled, or if you like, the
morning after girls 2) there’s a whole new journey ahead,
and this is only the beginning.
The Second EP will be released through Fly Records on November
15, distribution and marketing by Universal Music and Remote
Control.
The mini-album features 6 tracks, with vocals contributed
by Mark Gardener (vocalist / songwriter from RIDE), along
with 2 film clips, the upcoming lead single ‘Hi-Skies’
and ‘Hidden Spaces’ (which was the second single
taken from the first EP).
Whilst there is no doubt that rock and roll has made a come
back in a big way in recent times, the band has no particular
desire to brand themselves into any specific genre or play
to any particular formula, there are no expectations of what
the songs should sound like, which makes the anticipation
of what one can expect from a morning after girls EP release,
or a live show, and certainly an album, just that little bit
more exciting…
The Band: “We each bring diverse creative input to the
sound as a whole and if people can relate to that and be affected
by our music, (hopefully in a positive way), then that’s
all that’s important.”
The influences and comparisons are irrelevant – make
of it what you
will…
the morning
after girls have signed a deal with UK label Best
Before.
The label was recently
established by the owners of the legendary barfly
venues in the UK, who also manage Franz Ferdinand
and Kaiser Chiefs. the morning after girls
are Best Before's second signing, following hot
on the heels of The Heights , who are receiving
much love in the UK right now.
Over in USA the band
recently signed with Rainbow Quartz and are now join agency
representation via a roster which includes Black Rebel Motorcycle
Club, Coldplay, Grandaddy, Magic Numbers and Sigur Ros.
To celebrate this fantastic
international reception, and to pave the way for a new studio
album in 2006, the morning after girls have
released Evolve, a remarkably packaged album. The album
compiles their work to date and adds one new track Shadows
Evolve… the perfect introduction to the band's hypnotically
driven sound.
Evolve
is released Now on Fly Music, distributed by Warner Music.
